My family literally will not buy Portuguese sweet bread anywehre else besides Lou's. It is the best. It is so good that they literally only take cash and are only open four days a week. They say they are open until 1pm, but really they are open until sellout which is generally much earlier. My aunt always calls ahead to reserve sweet bread and last time they told her to get there by 10am so she didn't risk them closing down already. But, when you make the best sweet bread around you can very easily make this inconvenient business model work. The sweet bread comes in three sizes-- small, medium, and large. While the sweet bread is always delicious, I also love their chorizo puff pastry triangle. So tasty. If you want amazing sweet bread head on in to Lou's with your cash and be sure to head in early (before 10am)!

Lou's Portuguese sweet bread is the my absolute favorite and I've tried at least 5 different bakeries. There's something extra moist and fluffy about the bread here. They were closed for a few weeks when I was in town in July so I missed my chance to stock up. It will give me something to look forward to in the future.

So I have a friend who is a local Portuguese South-Coast native. She discovered my love for sweet bread and introduced me to this place. And I never looked back! Boy was she right on the money - if sweet bread is for you, this is your place. Haven't tried anything else here but I hear that everything else is amazing too. And since they were right about the sweet bread, I'll take their word for the rest.
